Approved Fire Door Installation
Fire doors are a vital safety to consider when planning any building development. When installed correctly, they can dramatically reduce the damage a fire can cause internally, by slowing the spread of flames and smoke, allowing people more time to escape, and for fire services to attend.
As a passive fire protection system, it is easy to overlook the importance of fire doors until they are put to task. It is only at this point that the quality of the door and installation face a real life test, and if they are inadequate, the resulting failures can be devastating.

Fire Door Repair & Maintenance
Contract Doors offer maintenance schedules as well fire door repair and replacement services, scaled to your requirements.
To offer a higher level of protection, fire doors are specially manufactured from fire resistant materials, which have been tested for their performance against flames, and also for the containment of smoke. To be classed as a fire door, they must pass multiple stringent tests to determine if they are deemed suitable.
It is therefore absolutely imperative that fire doors are only fitted by approved installers, and fully inspected for compliance. Furthermore, fire doors should be regularly inspected to ensure they remain safe, and that they are to the safety criteria as specified in the most up-to-date UK Building Regulations. Doors which fail inspection should be replaced to avoid costly fines, potental criminal prosecution and more importantly, injury or fatality.

Do I need a fire door?
There are obviously certain legal obligations which will determine whether fire doors are required in a specific development. In the UK, fire doors are a mandatory legal requirement in all non-domestic properties, such as businesses, commercial premises, and public buildings. They are also required in residential flats and houses of multiple occupancy.
For other single domestic buildings, and other buildings, we would also recommend a risk assessment to determine whether the installation of fire doors would be advised or if other options may be suitable.
